Hi, Friends!
I’d like to introduce you all to Bob. Bob’s pretty fun. He plays chess with a pirate monkey. He taught himself how to read. And he built a Lego pirate ship. All while living in a dark closet.
Why would Bob (or anyone, really) live in a dark closet, you ask? Is he a monster? A goblin or a troll? To be honest, Bob’s not sure who or what he is. But he does know one thing. He’s waiting for Livy. Because he knows that one day, she’ll come back. Because she promised.
And so he waits for five years.
There’s just one problem. When Livy finally returns to her grandma’s farm, she doesn’t remember telling Bob to wait for her until she got back. In fact, she doesn’t remember anything about Bob or how they found each other when she was just six years old.
As for Bob, all he remembers of that first day is that Livy saved him. He doesn’t know who he is or where he came from, but now that Livy’s back. Maybe, just maybe, they’ll be able to figure it out.
All about Bob
Bob is a brand-new release written by Wendy Mass and Rebecca Stead. Even better, the book has amazing drawings in it by Nicholas Gannon. If you’ve been following my Instagram pictures this week you’ve already seen the gold foil drawing that’s hiding underneath the dust jacket. It reminds me of one of my favorite pictures of Christopher Robin and Winnie the Pooh walking together in the 100 Acre Wood.
Bob’s story has a similar feel to it, too. This is a book that readers of all ages can enjoy. The chapters are short and take turns being told by Bob and Livy. Each one builds up to an end that I wasn’t quite expecting. And there’s nothing better than being surprised by a good story. These are the ones we read over and over again.
I want to be friends with Bob
Bob is someone I would want to meet in real life. I think we’d have a lot of fun together! We’re both creatures living in a human world. Both of us are curious, and both of us have a special human who means the world to us.
I’m giving this book five strands of black licorice in honor of Bob’s favorite snack. Personally, I think it smells funny! This is a story I would really recommend buying or requesting for your library to carry. In the end, the world needs more stories like Livy’s and Bob’s.
Happy reading, my friends!
