Prepare for the adventure of a lifetime in a graphic novel series for young readers!

Hi there!

My name is Cleotis (Klee-tis). I’m a red fox, but I like to call myself a Read Fox! I was born with a lame foot, so I can’t run as fast as others of my kind. But when it comes to books, I speed through them! The more action in the story, the better I like it.

I met Wambi Bookwyrm when he stayed with my humans for a week after the new human pup was born. We got to take turns reading stories to the newcomer, and I haven’t stopped since. I told Wambi about this amazing graphic novel I just finished called The Stone Keeper. It’s Book 1 in the Amulet Graphic Novel Series by Kazu Kibuishi. Wambi got really excited about it and asked me if I’d like to share it with his fellow bookwyrms. So here goes!

A house of mystery that leads to the adventure of their lives

Emily Hayes just lost her dad. Now, her mom is dragging her and her little brother away from everything they know to go live at their abandoned ancestral home in the country. All she knows about the place is that it belonged to her great-grandfather Silas Charnon. And he was what her mother called an “eccentric” inventor. While cleaning their new home, Emily comes across her great-grandfather’s study and stumbles across a strange table that reveals a hidden amulet.

Emily’s brother, Navin, has a bad feeling about messing with the old necklace, but Emily brushes him off. Turns out the necklace is enchanted. It warns her that her family is in danger and to keep them close. But it’s already too late. Emily and Navin find themselves pulled into a dark world full of parachute mushrooms, magic, and the oddball inventions of Silas Charnon himself. It’ll take all of their courage and the help of their new companions to navigate the new world and rescue their mother.

Plot twists and illustrations to enchant even the most hesitant readers

Amulet is the perfect read for young readers who love adventure stories. It’s pages are filled with pictures that will leave any reader feeling breathless. I found myself torn between racing through the pages to see how Emily and Navin escaped from constant danger and lingering on the images, not wanting to miss a single stroke of the artist’s brush.

Amulet does have some frightening images, so I would recommend it for readers 10 or older. Especially if you sometimes have nightmares. Wambi rates his books with spicy dark chocolate eggs, but I prefer Easter Bunnies. I give The Stonekeeper 4.5 Bunnies and am looking forward to reading the next in the series: The Stonekeeper’s Curse.

Until next time,
